Kern County Strike Vote

Jan. 20, 2011 – Kern County members took time out Wednesday to vote on a strike authorization for Kern County outside the office in Taft.

“If you don’t vote you don’t have a say,” said Gotcher. “It’s going to affect us dramatically, with our lives, our livelihood, our income, our benefits, everything.”

The county Board of Supervisors refused to bargain and is preparing to impose a contract with takeaways of up to 27 percent. Voting on whether to authorize the bargaining team to call a strike will continue through Saturday (schedule listed below).

A press conference will be held on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. to announce the results of the strike vote.
