Salinas workers present alternatives to service cuts

SALINAS – At the urging of city workers, the Salinas City Council invited city employee bargaining groups to present – in public – their alternatives to budget and program cuts. SEIU Local 521 members will share cost-saving ideas at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Some new ideas to be presented to the Council include:

• Add inspection process to existing property disclosures when a property is sold
• Increase fines for illegal home constructions
• Use existing city crew to maintain and repair fire and police vehicles, not outsourcing
• Review supervisor-to-staff ratio
