Workers offer “Baskets of Hope”

April 26, 2011 – Santa Clara County workers presented the Board of Supervisors Tuesday “Baskets of Hope” that symbolically contained $97.5 million of budget solutions to help with the county deficit.

Here is what Ruben Garcia, Eligibility Worker and Unit Vice-Chair, said to the board:

“On behalf of the thousands of other county workers represented by our Union, I come here in the spirit of cooperation. Some of us may have just celebrated Easter, but today, in a symbolic but non-religious gesture, we’d like to offer you these ‘Baskets of Hope.’

“We hope you will look inside the basket carefully, enjoy some chocolate, but also review the different budget solutions we are offering. These are solutions that we hope you will seriously consider as we work together to overcome our serious county budget deficit.”
