SEIU, working with a coalition of grassroots community organizations across the state, held 20 “Wake Up Califorina” events on May 24 in areas that rarely get involved in budget battles (read: comfortable upper-middle class neighborhoods).
One of our partners is Educate Our State (EOS), a statewide coalition of concerned parent activists who are feeling the effects of budget cutbacks at their schools.
The prospects of an all-cuts budget, which is being advocated by some extremist voices in Sacramento, are starting to hit home even in places like wealthy Lafayette in the Northern Bay Area and Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles. The LA events even included one famous parent activist: “90210” star Luke Perry!
