Celebrate Juneteenth this weekend in San Jose

Juneteenth in San JoseOn Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19, 2011, we will honor a part of our great African American heritage – Juneteenth!

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

SEIU Local 521 & Social Economic Justice Committee (SEJ), AFRAM & PWD Caucuses support this event and will have vendor booths.

Dates: June 18 – 19, 2011
Location: Plaza de Cesar Chavez, Downtown San Jose (map)
(across from the Fairmont Hotel, South Market Street)

Hours: Noon to 8 p.m.

The headliners for this year’s celebration are Leela James, Neo Soul Artist and Ruben Studdard, American Idol Winner/R&B Artist.

Princess Tiana and multiple children’s characters (full size) like Elmo, Dora and Mickey Mouse will be on site at the festival. There will also be a fashion and hair show.

Tickets are $5 each person – per day – for everyone older than 10.
Kids 10 and under are FREE.
