June 7, 2011 — When Santa Clara County workers heard that the county’s top leaders were going to take a 6% pay cut but would be eligible for a 5% bonus, they showed up en masse at the board of supervisors meeting Tuesday demanding answers.
Fortunately, county leaders recognized that executive bonuses were not a wise move at a time when the county is dealing with a $219 million budget deficit.
Workers from SEIU Local 521 have offered millions of dollars of budget solutions in the hopes of saving vital public services. After delivering speeches before the board, workers lined up and marched through the County Government Center, just to make sure they were heard.
