It was great to see Elisa Perez recognized by the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors this week for her efforts to feed children through an after-school program where she works. Summer is a great time if you’re a kid. What many of us don’t know is that when the last school bell rings, it also signals the end of free school lunches for children of many struggling families. I am proud to say our union, SEIU Local 521, just completed a food drive and collected more than 1.5 tons of food for a half-dozen community food banks.
Combined with cash donations, we collected enough to provide more than 7,300 meals for children and families.
While we can’t end world hunger overnight, we can start here.
