Come out to Monday’s FAIR & CARE Rally and Backpack Drive

Join the South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council at its BE FAIR and CARE Rally and Backpack Drive at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1 at San Jose City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St. (Map)

Union members care about our city and its people. And we care about children in financial need about to begin another school year.

“Because of unprecedented need from low-income families, Sacred Heart Community Service will distribute 2,013 backpacks filled with school supplies to children on Aug. 12,” said Poncho Guevara, executive director of Sacred Heart Community Service. “Since we are only halfway to our goal with two weeks remaining, we need help from the entire community to gather all the supplies required.”

Bring a backpack — make sure it’s black, not red or blue — and fill it with school supplies recommended by Sacred Heart Community Service (here’s a link to their list).

Bring your family and friends. We’re celebrating the positive, can-do spirit of union members and the community with popsicles and refreshing water to cool the heat of tough times and meet our community’s challenges.

Bringing together people who are fair and who care is the way to give kids a head start on the school year and the way unions help the City of San Jose meet its obligations to the residents of our community.
