The heat is on!

Santa Clara County’s SEIU 521 Bargaining Team heads back to the table Tuesday knowing they have full backing from labor allies, who officially took a strike sanction vote on July 11 to support the workers.

Did the action make a difference? Probably, given that the county’s top executive — Jeff Smith — said he would join the negotiations for the first time on Tuesday.

Be sure to come to the General Membership meeting this Thursday and keep collecting those signatures on the petition cards. Let’s show the supervisors the public supports county workers!

I was there yesterday! I have a suggestion! Please, if it should come down to a STRIKE vote, you need to address this issue with SEIU employees now. Address their fears now. Give everyone a plan of attack. Hopefully most employees would strike for as long as necessary, but you know some will be afraid to leave their jobs. If you do not address these issues now and speak about them now you will handicap us from the start. I struck back in 1975 and we were out for three weeks. If you address these issues now you may get more support if it should come down to the wire.
