Fresno County members came out in force Wednesday, Oct. 19, to light candles in front of the Hall of Records.
The members were raising awareness of $50 million in cuts demanded by the county Board of Supervisors. Because most county employees provide services reimbursed by the state and federal governments, that means the county would be turning $50 million away to be spent elsewhere.
The hit to the Fresno County economy would be equivalent to the loss of 1,000 good jobs.
At the same time, the county wants workers to give up their rights. For example, the county thinks the contract no longer needs a nondiscrimination clause.
