On Aug. 23 Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose) heard directly from his constituents about the need to create jobs during a town hall meeting in San Jose.
The event was held a day after a similar town hall with Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose).
With state unemployment about 12 percent, thousands are left without jobs and feeling the impact on the families and community.
This month Congress members are back in their home districts to meet with constituents before heading back to Washington. Everywhere they go, they’re hearing hardship stories about unemployment.
“This country is no longer able to fulfill its commitment to its citizens,” said Dolly Clemente, a homecare worker and SEIU 521 member, during the Rep. Honda town hall meeting at the Local 521 union hall. “We need your support for working families to survive this recession and we need your support to revive the middle class.”
Margarita Fregoso, a Social Services worker for Santa Clara County, read aloud one of the “Jobless in America” stories submitted on the Local 521 website. The online stories were collected and given to Rep. Honda’s staff.
While many congressional representatives are too busy playing politics instead of getting people back to work, Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose) pledged to continue to fight for working families in our district.
