SEIU California supported SB 98 (Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review) and won the Board of Registered Nursing reinstatement.
This was the trailer bill that had to pass so the board of Registered Nurses could be put back in action. The effect is immediate.
Stay tuned and we will let you know what the board looks like and when/where the first meeting will be held.
Thank you to the BRN committee for all the hard work.

Re: Support for SB 98 (Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review): Board of Registered Nursing Reinstatement
Dear Assemblymember Blumenfield,
On behalf of SEIU California’ 700,000 Californians including the largest union of health care workers, I write in support of SB 98, the budget trailer bill which will repeal the recent sunset legislation for the Board of Registered Nursing.
SEIU California is in support of this legislation which is needed for the business of health care to continue smoothly in California. We represent over 35,000 nurses. These nurses depend upon the BRN to renew their licenses and discipline the profession.
The bill is carefully crafted to create different length terms for the initial term of the board members so that thereafter they can be staggered.
It is appropriate that this bill be considered in the context of the budget because every day that goes by without the BRN back up and functioning as a full board is a day that the public of California is at risk as the backlog of license renewals and disciplinary investigations grow.
We thanks the committee for its consideration of this badly needed fix.
