SEIU 521 stands by nurse to patient ratio

Statement from Carmen Morales-Board:

SEIU in California represents RNs, doctors, healthcare professionals, service, technical, maintenance and clerical workers in hospitals. The SEIU Nurse Alliance of California members were instrumental in the passage of the California Nurse to Patient ratio legislation making California the first state in the country to do so.

It is a priority for our union that we fully support registered nurse staffing ratios, one of the important achievements for registered nurses we represent, and have an equal commitment to protecting the jobs of all other members of the healthcare team.

We recognize that in hospitals it takes a team to maximize the care patients receive. We further recognize that full and adequate staffing at all times is critical to providing safe and effective care in hospitals. That’s why we are calling on all unions and organizations that care about quality care for all in California to join with us in opposition to the governor’s budget cut to hospitals.

We encourage all of our RN members to get involved with the SEIU Nurse Alliance of California and work with SEIU RNs throughout California to advocate for our patients, for our nursing practice, and for quality, accessible healthcare for our community.
