In order to avoid layoffs and furloughs caused by state budget cuts, Kern County Superior Court is offering an incentive program that is endorsed by SEIU 521.
The court must reduce staffing by 54 positions this year, beyond the 60 positions already left vacant.
Employees may apply by July 23 to be part of the program. Workers who are chosen will receive an additional payment of $1,000 per year of service for up to nine years. Those who have served 10-15 years will get $15,000; those who have served 16 years or more will get $20,000. The court will pay the healthcare premiums for chosen workers for one year. Workers may also be eligible for a sick leave cashout.
