Santa Clara County Health and Hospital workers win $330K for weekend work

SEIU 521 stewards filed a grievance on behalf of all Patient Transporters, Dialysis Technician and Health Service Representatives at Valley Medical Center for a county violation of our “Weekend Off Provision” (Appendix B.14 and E.7). This contract provision states that if the County requires a worker to work more than two (2) consecutive weekends, or more than twenty-six (26) weekends per year, the worker will receive time and one-half for work in excess of that required.

“After a long battle, our stewards were able to win back pay for SEIU 521 members at Valley Medical Center.
Thanks to all who were involved. It shows that in unity we can win.”
– Melanie Martinez, SEIU 521 Steward
