SEIU 521 staff changes in Central Valley region

Departures, a promotion and new faces

First, the big news: After 5 years directing the Bakersfield office of SEIU Local 521 and 42 years of total service, Chuck Waide is retiring.  Chuck will be with us for a while to ensure a smooth transition and to ruffle a few more feathers before he goes. The incoming director is Ernest Harris, a veteran of SEIU and an honorary RN from SEIU Nurse Alliance of CA. We are all excited to have Ernest take the helm and we have a very bright future ahead.

Pete Rodriguez, a former union staff member with a strong background in both management and labor, is already on board to replace Ernest and immediately and effectively start serving our members’ needs.

Also stepping down this month is Ed Nance.  We are very sorry to lose Ed, who was a great asset for our members.

Lastly, James Geluso, our Communications Specialist for Regions 3-5, has left to pursue his master’s degree at UC Berkeley.  We are happy to welcome Tom Webster, who comes with extensive background in both communications and political organizing. Tom is ready to pick up where James left off.

We’re looking forward to a strong finish to our year and continuing to stand with SEIU members as we work to improve our community and our future.
