The SEIU International Convention, held every four years, is the highest governing body of our union. Delegates representing every SEIU member must approve all decisions and policies and programs of the union and are meeting to do this work together in Denver, Colo., over the Memorial Day weekend.

SEIU delegates unanimously commit to unprecedented investment and coordination with progressive allies, member mobilization
Member delegates representing the union’s 2.1 million members, who also elected its International Executive Board members, endorsed a comprehensive program to engage in unprecedented levels of coordination with strategic partners and to recruit, train and mobilize more than 100,000 member-leaders across the union who will reach out to friends, neighbors and co-workers to demand justice for the 99%.

521 Cultural Committee members’ performance shines at convention
SEIU 521 was among a handful of locals selected to prepare a cultural presentation to share at the Denver Convention.
Working with artist Thenmozhi Soundararajan, the group produced the video below that was shown today.
The piece is titled, “We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For.” This multimedia video and song is a collaboration between SEIU Local 521’s Cultural Committee and Los Angeles based multimedia artist/singer Thenmozhi Soundararajan for the 2012 National SEIU Convention in Denver. The project connects the important historical labor struggles with the vital work we do now at SEIU for workers’ rights in the future. We believe in our solid legacy that transcends cultures. For now more than ever, we must fight together this time for all unions and all workers.

Our membership includes thousands of public service workers in 17 Counties from the Monterey-Santa Cruz Coast, the Salinas Valley (Salad Bowl), to the high-tech world of Silicon Valley in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, and to the Central Valley of California where the United Farm Workers union was founded.
