Progress in Sacramento as union, county may return to table
FRESNO—An informal settlement conference between members of SEIU 521 and officials from Fresno County resulted in the county’s negotiators agreeing to recommend to the Board of Supervisors that the parties come to mediation.
The conference was a prelude to a formal hearing in front of the California Public Employment Relations Board.
Today’s hearing was confidential, so negotiators are not allowed to speak about the discussions that took place.
PERB has charged Fresno County with failing to bargain in good faith as required by law, including refusing to meet with SEIU as late as Dec. 21.
Fresno County’s workers are standing strong behind their demand that the county come back to the table and negotiate fairly.
