521 Executive Board urges a YES vote for bylaws amendments

Executive Board Cake 2010Our union’s bylaws were drafted and approved in 2009 by the general membership of SEIU Local 521. Bylaws provide language and protocol for how a union is run and managed.

As we head into a new year with the election of a new Executive Board, member leaders thought it was the ideal time to update some language of our bylaws to make governance clearer and more effective.

The Executive Board voted unanimously on Dec. 1 to approve the proposed bylaws amendments that will go before a general membership vote in January.

The proposed changes involve “clean-up” language, from allowing more voting flexibility for the board to make quick actions to setting protocol for filling vacancies.

Gwyndolyn Harshaw, SEIU Local 521 President“These proposed amendment changes are some basic upkeep the Executive Board needs to make in order to work more effectively. Please vote YES on the changes to the bylaws.”
