As the Senate closes in on its immigration reform proposal, SEIU members urge our elected officials that a commonsense immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship will strengthen our families, our communities and our country.
On Wednesday, April 10, SEIU members and activists will rally nationwide, calling for immigration reform now. We will be joined by our partners and allies from labor, faith, civil rights, immigrant and community groups.
More than 11 million immigrants – a population the size of the state of Ohio – live and work in the U.S. today without benefit of immigration status, labor protections, civil rights, and political enfranchisement.
But the time is now to create an immigration system that works: to create a reasonable roadmap to citizenship, to prioritize our families, to end employer intimidation and exploitation, and to stabilize and grow our economy by bringing these 11 million aspiring citizens out of the shadows.
