SEIU Nurse Alliance of California Legislative Conference

“Rockin’ Enrollin’ Moving the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Forward!” was the theme of this year’s conference.

Attending nurses to the conference in Sacramento May 8-May9, 2013 learned how the changes in the new health care system will impact the daily practice of providing care to our patients; NPA: understanding licensure in California; expectation of the scope of practice and legal responsibility; components of a comprehensive infection control program; how legislation evolves, current legislation and how it impacts nurses and patients they care for; health and safety, identifying unsafe conditions in the workplace; how to discuss their own health and safety needs.

Luisa Blue, SEIU 521 Chief Elected Officer, was a keynote speaker on “The Consequences of Being an Activist” at the conference on May 8, 2o13.

The Nurse Alliance of Calif awarded the Glenda Canfield Award to Carmen Morales for her leadership in forming the 521 RN Kern county ACA education committee and educating county workers and the community about the upcoming changes brought by the health care bill.
