Independent report agrees with Fresno County workers

The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) released a fact finding report that largely agrees with SEIU’s position that a previous paycut should be returned to workers. The initial response from the County was fairly predictable. After members rallied, the County has contacted SEIU and is looking to go back to the bargaining table!

Kern County pilots new healthcare plan

Here’s a novel idea: Kern County is trying out a new healthcare plan for county workers by using Kern Medical Center, a county-owned and operated hospital, to provide services to county workers. SEIU Local 521 and Kern County have partnered to help enroll members in the plan which costs 50% less than any other plan. More.

May Day commemorates a national strike in support of the 8-hour workday. It is an official holiday in more than 80 countries around the world with many holding public parades and celebrations focused on working families. Only a handful of countries have tried to sever the link between Labor Day and International Workers’ Day.
