Santa Clara County workers help kids gear up for school

Santa Clara County workers partnered with Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose Aug. 9 and helped provide more than 3,400 new backpacks and school supplies for children getting ready for school.

But this is just the first step. Santa Clara County workers and Community First Coalition want to ensure that children and families not only get new backpacks, but also quality county services such as childhood nutrition, health care, mental counseling, and transportation and public safety.

During the backpack giveaway, workers also spoke to community members about the need for the county to invest in quality services and cutting edge workforce.

“I am really glad that we are doing this today. We the county workers live in this community and serve this community. Many families in the county need our supports and we the county workers want to make sure they have the best quality community services.”
— Marilyn Mara, Public Health Nurse
