SEIU signs up hundreds for health care in Fresno

SEIU Local 521 hosted 2 additional “last chance” free community health fairs with Covered California to sign people up:

Bakersfield: Saturday, March 29

San Jose: Saturday, March 29

More than 400 people attended a “last chance” health fair at the Fresno County Fairgrounds. SEIU Local 521 and community partners were able to sign up more than 200 for insurance either through Covered California or MediCal.

Fresno City Councilman Blong Xiong and County Supervisor Henry Perea both spoke at the event Fresno-Health-Fair-002on March 22 and stressed the importance of signing up for health care.

“This is incredibly important for the health of the county,” said Xiong. “Over one million Californians have already signed up. We need everyone to get covered.”

SEIU members are playing a critical role to ensure the successful implementation of health care reform. We worked hard to lobby Congress to pass the Affordable Care Act. We are honored to be part of the effort to provide health insurance to all Americans.

Fresno-Health-Fair-003SEIU Local 521 won a $1 million dollar grant to conduct outreach and to educate over 150,000 California residents about Covered California, the online health exchange where consumers can shop for affordable, quality health coverage.
