Get well or get paid in Silicon Valley?

During an hearing on August 13 on earned sick leave, workers told us what it’s like to have to choose between your health or the paycheck that puts food on your table:

Get well or get paid?Which option would you choose? Your money or your health?

This is a cruel game that workers are being forced to play every day. Help us change the rules. It starts with passing the Silicon Valley Living Wage.

The living wage would ensure that Santa Clara County workers and employees of county contractors receive earned sick days, so they can rest and recover or take care of sick loved ones.

When it comes to living in Silicon Valley, the price is wrong – very, very wrong. For about 1 in 3 households in the county, the cost of basic expenses outstrips their income. That makes trying to get by feel like a game you can’t win.

But to pass the living wage, we need you. On Monday, August 25, Santa Clara County is holding two town hall meetings on the cost of living in Silicon Valley. Join us to tell the county government we need a living wage that provides fair wages, healthcare and earned sick days, and other crucial jobs standards.

Let’s fix this game to stop stories like Shige’s and Pam’s –– RSVP now.

Here are the details:
Monday, August 25
There are two meetings: 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m.
Isaac Newton Auditorium
70 W. Hedding Street, San Jose

Your voice can drive home the urgency of quality jobs, and build momentum for the living wage. Let us know you’ll be there!

See you at the town halls!
