Monterey County: Victory

“Leader of Unions, Union of Leaders”

Abelina CamposOn August 6, 2014 a grave injustice was made right. The bosses had made a huge mistake and unjustly terminated Union Sister Abelina Campos. Without provocation, without grounds, and without just cause.

The employer walked Sister Abelina out of the doors of Behavioral Health sending a message of fear and intimidation to many
Behavioral Health workers. It was announced in a staff meeting that she would no longer be working in Behavioral Health.

Had Sister Abelina not been an SEIU Local 521 Union member, she would have had little recourse to fight this injustice. The employer violated the new SEIU Local 521 Union contract and violated her rights. At the August 6 meeting the employer provided her with a full apology for her unjust termination. In addition the employer had to reinstate Sister Abelina to her original position and make her whole for lost wages and related benefits.

Please give Sister Abelina a warm welcome when she returns to work. She stood with her Union and won. It is time for all of us to stand together. We will always be stronger together!
