Dear Brothers and Sisters:
We’re writing to all of our Fresno County members because we know that right now during this Open Enrollment period there are decisions you are making about healthcare for you and your family.
Kaiser is a union-represented, nonprofit health plan committed to working families. As you know, our union has been actively working to help bring lower costs and high-quality options for our members, and we have some good news as you weigh your options.
Kaiser lowered their rates making them affordable for our members!
For the second year in a row, Kaiser has lowered its rates for County employees in an effort to make the plan even more affordable than last year. Kaiser’s rates have gone down significantly and they are now comparable to the existing HMO plan. That means you can now choose a plan based on the kind of care you want, rather than what you can afford.
We also researched their medical center for quality of care.
Last year, we told you we were impressed to find out that Kaiser Fresno was the only hospital in Fresno, Madera, Tulare and Kings Counties to get an “A” ranking on hospital safety by an outside group that rates over 2,500 hospitals around the country.
We also know that Kaiser Permanente doctors are salaried so they have no incentive to charge for extra procedures or run more labs or tests than needed. Also, unlike at other places, when you get care at Kaiser everything is “under one roof” and your caregivers work together. You can also take advantage of Kaiser’s secure online system to email your doctor, refill prescriptions, schedule routine appointments, and more.
Kaiser has a unionized workforce!
Kaiser is also unique in that it is a strong union organization. Kaiser has the largest Labor Management Partnership in the county which means that our brothers and sisters who provide care and service there have a voice on the job every day, and use their skill and experience to drive continuous improvement and innovation at the front lines of care.
In full disclosure, I have been a Kaiser member since 1977 and have received nothing but excellent care. Please take a minute to consider your healthcare options during this open enrollment period, and good luck to you and your family!
