For over 23 years, Catherine McCoy, president of our San Andreas Chapter and co-chair of the SEIU Developmental Disabilities Council, has served people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Catherine now takes on a stronger advocacy role with her recent appointment to the California Development Services Task Force.
Catherine has been a service coordinator in the Community Placement Plan Unit at San Andreas Regional Center since 1994 and assisted in the closure of Santa Clara’s Agnews Developmental Center.
As co-chair of the SEIU Developmental Disabilities Council, Catherine holds a master’s degree in social work and currently serves as an associate clinical social worker.
“I was honored to be asked to represent community labor on the Delivery System Task Force,” said Catherine. “My years of experience as an SEIU member-leader has taught me not to underestimate the power of good working relationships. I will take these lessons with me as I partner with my DS Task Force colleagues to come up with a plan to strengthen, sustain and maintain the rights of our state’s most fragile citizens, and fix our broken system of delivering services.”
As a member of the team, Catherine will be charged with examining services for the development disabled in the community, including the sufficiency of community rates and the impact state and federal laws and regulations may have, whether current regulations can be streamlined, and whether certain benefits received by developmental center residents as part of a center closure process should be broadened to others in the community.
Let’s all congratulate Catherine on her new appointment!
