DDS tightens grip on KRC

20150407_185127The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has issued a letter to Kern Regional Center requiring that all changes involving personnel, vendors and consumers be cleared at the state level. DDS is stepping in to stop threats of retaliation made by the board and CEO at the most recent board meeting including filming everyone who participated in the rally. During the board meeting, SEIU members filled the room and let the Board President Susan Lara and CEO Duane Law know that their behavior would no longer be tolerated. They held signs and spoke at the podium outlining years of misbehavior. They also presented a letter of no confidence signed by community stakeholders.

The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) that oversees KRC also had staff at the meeting. For months, DDS has been sending letters asking KRC to clean up their act. President Lara has essentially told the state that there are no problems at KRC. Our members have continued to push for the truth to get out.

The latest letter further restricts a rogue board from acting out and gives the California Department of Developmental Services another way to hold them in check or replace them should the time come. Click here to see the official letter.
