Once again, workers are being penalized for an untimely payment of monies owed to workers in accordance with our contract. This is the latest in the continued saga of incompetence by the Auditor-Controller to pay workers on time and correctly. From shift differentials that have not been paid since 2013, the vacation buy back issues, and non-payment of wages owed to new hires – this CANNOT CONTINUE!
K unit members in the Health department are being penalized this week by not getting paid today for a bilingual longevity bonus that has been in our MOU for years. While employees were given the option of getting paid today or Monday as a resolution – it comes with an “up to 48%” tax – because this is a separate cash out.
WHY SHOULD EMPLOYEES PAY THE PRICE FOR MANAGEMENT’S MISTAKES?
There is no accountability when management errs and this will no longer be tolerated by SEIU 521 members! That is why as of last night, we filed a group grievance of all affected bargaining unit members, demanding that the County pay all taxes associated with their inability to pay workers timely.

Stand in solidarity with your Union brothers and sisters to send a message to the Board of Supervisors that the public and the SEIU 521 members deserve an Auditor Controller that can complete the basic accounting tasks of paying employees on time and correctly. Its time that the County invest in its workforce by hiring more staff in the Auditor Controllers office to be able to provide quality services to our members and the public.
