CED Victory: Workers Win Night Shift Differential Pay

CED On Your Side

Working night shifts at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office must come with differential pay, according to the contract. And yet, SEIU Local 521 members who worked as Latent Fingerprint Examiners at the Sheriff’s office were not being properly compensated.

New Union Steward, Liz Lacey, worked with SEIU 521 Contract Enforcement Department (CED) to file a grievance against the county and won!

In December, the Santa Clara County Labor Relations Department awarded retroactive night shift differential pay to the affected SEIU 521 members.

“We are very excited by this win and we hope it empowers other employees to keep up the good fight and to not be discouraged by perceived obstacles,” Liz said.

SEIU 521 members have a Contract Enforcement Department (CED) on their side. CED works with union stewards to protect contracts, defend members facing disciplinary issues, and to advocate for better working conditions through individual and group grievances.
