We’ve Reached a Tentative Agreement in Fresno County
After meeting with Fresno County over the last seven months regarding our healthcare contributions, we finally have movement.
Over the last several months, we have met with the Board of Supervisors demanding they fix the broken health care system and make sure that each worker has access to quality affordable healthcare. While we believe there is still more work to do, we have reached a tentative agreement in our latest negotiation session.
For the 2016 plan year, the County is willing to increase the Employer Contribution by $10 per pay period for all SEIU Represented workers, which would be effective July 4, 2016. Ratification Votes will take place in the upcoming weeks. Voting Schedule and T.A. forthcoming.
“SEIU was the moving party on getting an increased contribution on healthcare for all Fresno County Workers.” – Carlos Cortes, Labor Relations for Fresno County
We still need to act! SJVIA is considering upwards of 19% increases for the upcoming plan year as well as a mid-year rate hike. It’s up to all of us to stop this and we cannot continue to rely on a small group of dedicated members to carry this burden for everyone. On June 24, 2016 there is an SJVIA Board meeting where they will be voting on recommendations that directly impact each of us. We need to show up. Contact your worksite steward or internal worksite organizer for more information.
“Don’t sit on the sidelines; get in the game! We have to fight together to improve the lives of all workers.” Riley Talford, Fresno County Chapter President and Supervising Juvenile Correctional Officer

As our coalition grows, we’re gathering people who want to become agents of change in their communities. We’re working to unleash the power of our friends, neighbors and families to live, work, and grow without the constant threat of losing their insurance or the constant stress of not having any access to healthcare. We believe that by coming together, we can have a powerful voice and exert some control over our healthcare rather than allow our healthcare be another thing happening to us. Each of our voices and stories are valuable. Our combined voices and stories can inform the present and change the future.
