COPE is helping save Kern Libraries

ALE SEIUOur COPE dollars are making a difference in the community and helping to pass Measure F in Kern County. SEIU members presented a check to one of leaders from the Advocates for Library Enhancement so they can buy more signs, mailers and pay for other expenses to run a campaign. Our COPE money comes from the voluntary donations of members who choose to donate every month and can be the difference between failure and success for local candidates and ballot members.

“Get out and vote! Measure F is really important for our communities, for our libraries, and for our future.”Jacob Cairns, a Librarian III

The June 7 election in California could not be more important for the future of Kern County libraries. If Measure F passes, our libraries will finally have adequate funding, branches will be able to stay open and expand hours, and the libraries will be able to add other services. If Measure F fails, our county supervisors have made it known that they will impose further cuts on our libraries, force closures, and possibly outsource operations to LSSI, a for-profit company from Delaware.
