Fire in Kern County Highlights Importance of Public Services

Victory at Salud Para La Gente

SEIU 521 members have reached a tentative agreement with Salud Para La Gente, resulting in significant gains, including salary increases, bilingual certification pay and secure seniority rights. Base pay for Salud workers will be increased to $15 per hour for all current and new hires.

Our #FightFor15 campaign continues to reach more low-wage workers!  A higher minimum wage lifts up the lives of our members and reduces poverty in our communities.

Half a Billion Dollars for Early Child Care Educators

ChildcareVICTORY! California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law the largest investment in early care and education in recent state history of $527 million. This means more families will be able to send their kids to pre-school and child care workers can begin to move their own families out of poverty.

This win would not have happened without the efforts of SEIU child care workers and parents in the Fight for $15.

Relief in Heath Care Cost Increase

Fresno County members will be receiving an extra $10 per paycheck towards their health care costs starting July 4. This welcome relief comes as members in the Central Valley push to highlight health issues and problems with members’ current insurance.

SEIU International signed up 5,461 new members during the Spring SURGE.

At SEIU 521, we signed up 463 new members and 159 new COPE activisits thanks to member-to-member conversations.

When we are stronger, we win better contracts for our workers and our communities.

Candlelight Vigils for Orlando

Candlelight Vigil in San JoseIn a demonstration that unions are a place where different people of all backgrounds can come to unite, members of SEIU Local 521 held two community candlelight vigils on June 16 for the 49 men and women killed in Orlando last week.
