Workers Leading the Fight

As Monterey County workers edge close to a strike to fight for a fair contract, SEIU member leader Arlene Samrick has stepped up to the plate, speaking before the Board of Supervisors and acting as spokesperson for her fellow 3,000 county workers.

“We are working people standing together for our communities and our families. As we continue to bargain for a fair contract, we are calling on County Supervisors to support the frontline workers who keep this county running.”

Principal Office Assistant, Resource Management

TP-BP-July2016Half a Billion Dollars for Early Childcare Educators

Victory! California Gov. Brown signed into law the largest
investment in early care and education in recent history of
$527 million.

This win would not have happened without the efforts of SEIU
Child Care Workers and parents in the Fight For $15.

WINNERS – Relief in Health Care Cost for Fresno

Fresno County members will be receiving an extra $10 per paycheck towards their health care costs starting July 4.

This welcome relief comes as members in the Central Valley push to highlight health issues and problems with their current insurance.

LOSERS – Charter Schools

Walton Family Foundation (Walmart founders) commits $250 million to charter schools.

” ‘School choice’ obscures the real choice: Who do we want to control public education – communities, teachers and education professionals? Or billionaires and owners of companies like Walmart?”
