With a 98% ‘yes’ vote, members overwhelmingly ratified a new contract with Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE).
A 5% wage increase, retroactive to September 1, 2016, is now in effect. There will be a 4% wage increase in 2017 and 3% in 2018. (The raises for 2017 and 2018 are contingent on the SCCOE office receiving at least a 1% COLA. SEIU 521 is very confident the office will receive at least a 1% COLA in 2017 and 2018.)
The bargaining team from the OSS, OTBS and Paraprofessional Units, and union members worked extremely hard to get the best contract possible. The team did remarkably well in presenting our arguments to management to show how classified staff deserve better wages, benefits and working conditions.
“Our negotiations team was made of a diverse group of members that represented all of our bargaining units. We worked together to get a fair raise. We came to an agreement which give us an opportunity to work with management and fight for increase hours for our paraeducators in the future.”
– Sandy Fakaosi, Chapter Director and Steward
