May 1st: International Workers’ Day

RSVP now for an event near you.

On International Workers’ Day, people across the country will participate in a National Day of Action at marches, rallies, and town halls that will resist this administration’s scapegoating of immigrant and refugee communities. Join us!

We are a nation that welcomes immigrants and values the talent, ingenuity, and hard work that immigrants bring to our communities. On May 1 we declare that hatred and bigotry have no home here.

SEIU is the largest organization of immigrants in the United States, with over 400,000 immigrant members, and was founded by immigrants nearly 100 years ago. SEIU members—immigrants and native born alike—will be out in force on May 1 to show support for the immigrant families who contribute so much to our communities and our economy.

Francisco Martinez quoteWe believe that immigrants are good people trying to provide the best life possible for their families. Immigrants strengthen our economy by creating millions of jobs every year, running almost a fifth of the small businesses across America. They do the work that our families need and that drives our economy, like caring for our children, the sick and the elderly, and securing and cleaning our offices and airports.

At the end of April, congress will vote on President Trump’s budget, which proposes massive funding cuts to after-school programs, senior programs like Meals on Wheels, healthcare, financial aid for students, and more – all to pay for an expensive and unnecessary border wall.

Seize this moment in history. Demonstrate the strength of working people standing together. Show that we’re ready to defend worker and immigrant rights against fear and hate and that we have the power to stand up to the threats facing working families and our communities.

By building a mass movement in the streets that unites all of our struggles, we can win our fight for justice and dignity.
