Summer 2017 Legislative Wrap-Up

Bail Reform: On Wednesday, Aug. 23, hundreds of SEIU Members travelled to the State Capitol  to lobby in favor of Bail Reform bill SB10. Our efforts paid off – just two days later, Governor Jerry Brown announced that he will work with SB10 authors to make sure the bill gets passed. This means it will not be heard by the Appropriations Committee as scheduled, but will be postponed. Read Gov. Brown’s press release here.

“Commonsense Outsourcing Standards” (AB 1250) would protect taxpayers by requiring counties to clearly demonstrate that a proposed outsourcing contract will result in actual overall costs savings and also to show that the contract does not cause the displacement of county workers.SEIU 521 members went to Sacramento on August 21 to support AB 1250 and tell our state legislators to vote YES. See the pictures on Facebook here.
