Sept. 20 Bargaining Update

We’ve been negotiating for months now with very little movement from the County. From August to Sept 20, the County has only increased its proposal for raises from 2.0% to now 2.75% raises each year for 2 years.
Does that sound to you like a proposal that values San Benito County employees?
This is the most crucial time in our fight for a fair contract. We have one week until our MOU expires – one last week to really prove to the Board that we are united and determined to fight. If we can’t get the Board of Supervisors’ attention now, then we are not optimistic that they will make a better offer.

Our Sept 20th Union Proposal for a 2 year contract
After long deliberation, this proposal we gave to the County on Sept. 20th is reflective of what we believe our members would overwhelmingly vote for under these conditions:

Year 1:
·       4.5% salary increase in October 2017
·       $1,200 to cover on-going increases in healthcare
·       Holiday closure for December 2017
Year 2:
·       3.5% salary increase in October 2018
·       $1,200 to cover on-going increases in healthcare
·       Holiday closure for December 2018

To get anywhere near this, we need to turn up the heat. Now more than ever we need to increase turnout to show the Board of Supervisors that our employees deserve and have earned an MOU that values us and the services we provide to our community.

Three Actions Everyone Must Take
This Tuesday will be the last opportunity to have the Board tell its bargaining team to offer our workers more than what they’ve offered before. Everyone needs to do the following:

Take two minutes to share your story with the Board – we’ve created an email campaign where you can fill in your personal story about how you serve the community. Please do this by Monday evening so that the Supervisors see your message before their meeting on Tuesday.

Action 2: Pack the Board of Supervisors Meeting on Tuesday!

WhenTuesday, Sept 26 from  8:40am – 11am
Where: Inside County Admin Building (481 Fourth St)
What: Take time off from 8:40am -11am to ensure that you’re there when the meeting starts and that you’ll be around long enough to show your support for our speakers.
Tell us if you’re going: Salinas.rsvp@seiu521.org

Action 3: Lunchtime Rally Outside the Board Chambers on Tuesday

When:Tuesday, Sept 26 from  12:15pm-12:45pm
Where:Front of County Admin Building (481 Fourth St)
What: This is your last chance to show the Board before the MOU expires that we have the numbers. We need more people to come out than ever before. Bring your coworkers, bring your family. Change your lunchtime if that’s what it takes.WEAR PURPLE
