Together We Rise: Oct. 19 Kern Bargaining Update

IMG_0462For the past two days, we have been in intense negotiations with the County. Their proposal from Oct. 17 finally put some money on the table where employees would see a reprieve from healthcare premiums for one pay period in December 2017. This would be money in our pocket ranging from zero to $231 depending on our your contribution. This does nothing for many working families and doesn’t invest in public services. SEIU members at our General Membership Meeting said clearly – THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Our counter-proposal for wages, winter recess, and term of the agreement is a package proposal which means that if the County rejects our proposal for a two-year agreement with wage increases of 2% each year,  our previous proposal from Aug. 28 where we proposed 3% each year for two years remains as our last proposal.  Our team is looking to reach an agreement that puts money in the pockets of members to begin a recovery after 8 years of concessions and zero wage increases.

Hello, I been keeping up with the negotiations and I really hope the Union can step up this time around. I have a comment regarding the proposal, however. If we have not had a raise in over 10 years, 10, why are we settling for 2% ??? is that really the best we can do 2%????? 10 years of frustration to only receive 2%. We are wasting our time, 2% does not even cover the rise of my health benefits let alone putting “more money in our pocket”. The counties proposal of no raises is unacceptable but the Union’s proposal of 2 or 3% is also ridiculously low. We need Better leadership at the SEIU.
