Animal Care Technicians Win Back Pay

The Monterey County Animal Services Center has a team of union workers who dedicate themselves to ensuring that lost, stray, and abandoned animals get the care they need. One of those workers is Ben Logue, who, since 2005, has faithfully performed his duties at the County’s animal shelter in Salinas. When it became apparent that Human Resources was unreasonably delaying wages that Ben and his co-workers were entitled to, he contacted SEIU 521 Steward Cathy Stanley to help him file a grievance.

Animal Services is a division of the Health Department in Monterey County. Ben and Cathy worked closely with Health Department administrators to resolve the grievance, which culminated in back pay for our Animal Care Technicians.
“This speaks to the power of having a union that forces management to do right by fairly compensating us for the valuable services we provide our community.”
– Cathy Stanley, SEIU 521 Steward and Animal Control Officer for the County of Monterey
