In his honor, SEIU Local 521 Latino Caucus sponsored 4 events.

- San Mateo County 2nd Annual Cesar Chavez Celebration

Immigration March, May 1st, 2009:
May 1st is May Day. Traditionally a workers holiday, now it is a day to show support and solidarity for immigrants. There was a march in San Jose on that day.

There is a resolution calling for a National Holiday for Farm Worker leader Cesar E. Chavez on his birthday, March 31: Read the SEIU 521 Resolution to Support a National Holiday for Cesar Chavez. Three of our nation’s top entertainers, GRAMMY® Award winning musician Carlos Santana, and acclaimed actors Martin Sheen and Edward James Olmos, have agreed to serve as National Co-Chairs of the effort to win a national holiday for the late founder and president of the United Farm Workers, Cesar E. The public was invited to learn about great and ancient indigenous heritage from teachers from Mexico and those who live it here in San Jose and surrounding areas. Over 25 vendors of beautiful, original native jewlelry and artisanry.
