Ballot measure sought to fund Tulare County health programs

IITC-sm March 10 - Tulare County supervisors Tuesday were asked to launch a ballot initiative that would redirect millions of tobacco-settlement dollars to public-health programs.

Diane Lopez worked for the courts in Kern County for 14 years, plus two years with the Public Defender. She worked in the traffic, revenue recovery and civil divisions. "I always wanted to learn," she said. "I was a good recovery." Now, she's about to fall through the cracks because neither the courts nor the county want to provide her with the health care she earned.

Why do we need healthcare reform?

For decades, our healthcare has been eroding: costs keep going up and coverage keeps getting worse. More businesses can't afford healthcare, and more workers are left without coverage. Government efforts to fill the gap have been inadequate and are perpetually cut during budget crises. The situation is not getting any better, and unless we act now, it will only get worse.
