Carmen Morales - ACA speech at Rep. Kevin McCarthy's office

Our community is coming together to defend the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Five million Californians will be directly affected by a repeal. Millions more benefit from ACA because of provisions like extending dependent coverage to age 26 and removing “pre-existing condition” clauses from insurance. Covered California and tax subsidies to small businesses have given people more freedom to move from job to job and small businesses can better compete for the best talent.

We can’t go back to a time when so many Americans had to rely on emergency rooms for primary care or forgo treatment altogether. Our congresspeople need to carry the message to Washington D.C.: This law is saving lives in California and we are ready to fight for our health. #Fight4OurHealth

A message from Gwyn Harshaw, SEIU 521 President: “The vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been canceled because of the work done by millions of people just like you. The marches we led, the candlelight vigils across Local 521, the phone calls and digital activism all played a part in today’s victory. From our humble beginnings at a rally in front of Congressman Kevin McCarthy’s office, our efforts built a movement that we can all be proud of.
Although we celebrate tonight, this battle is far from over. Despite Congress pulling the bill today, it will come back again and again and we must be willing and ready to fight it at every turn.” Continue to read her message…
