Fresno County Members Vote to Save Jobs July 2, 2009 - In order to minimize layoffs to Fresno County workers in this time of budget crisis, workers in Bargaining Units 2, 3, 4, 12, 22, 31 and 36 voted yes on Temporary Office Closure (TOC). The 2% cut will be offset by the 3% increase workers are scheduled to receive in December 2009 and is a better alternative than the 22% pay cut the County wanted these units to take. » Read more

SEIU Local 521 Files PERB Charges Against Fresno County
Monday, May 11, 2009
SEIU 521 Union filed Unfair Labor Practice against Fresno County, after many attempts to obtain budget information from the County Administration Office.
The County to date has failed to provide this crucial information to SEIU 521 Leadership and its members.
SEIU leadership has attempted to meet with Department Heads to get an idea of how bad the budget will be and they have informed us that they have been
directed by the CAO, John Navarette not to share the information with us.
On behalf of the members of Bargaining Units 2, 12, and 31, SEIU filed ULP (Unfair Labor Practice) charges against the County on May 11, 2009. SEIU 521
did this to protect your rights under the Myers-Millas Brown Act.
The County's actions and lack of action forced SEIU 521 to file the ULP charges.
The County's failure to provide Local 521 full and accurate information in a timely manner constitutes a failure to meet and confer in good faith.
Also the County has unilaterally adopted a "mandatory furlough" plan - whereby the County has scheduled the 40 hours of mandatory furlough with the possibility of being increased to 80 hours for the period of June 15, 2009 through June 13, 2019. The County failed and refused to provide SEIU 521 with the information relevant to the performance of its bargaining responsibilities.
By these acts the County committed an unfair practice as defined by PERB ( Public Employee Relations Board) regulation.
You will be kept informed of any future actions taken or outcomes. For any updates please visit the SEIU website at seiu521.org.
