Nurse Alliance of California Meeting, Jan. 2010

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 – Local 121RN

Meeting Notes by Ernest Harris, Carmen Morales, RN, and Carmen Cruise, RN

We received an update from Nurse Alliance Exec. Director Ingela Dahlgren that our motion was approved by all local union Executive Directors to have the Nurse Alliance funds deposited in an account in California.

The January 13, 2010 BRN meeting agenda was reviewed; the proposed fee increase being proposed will be considered at that time; talking points and a position statement were drafted for that meeting; Nurse Alliance delegate Jeannie King, RN will represent us.

A letter opposing BRN participation in mandated furloughs and operating budget reserve borrowing of the agency's funds was drafted. The final version of the letter will be sent to Nurse Alliance delegates for their approval.

We discussed 121 RN's concerns regarding Kaiser-Sunset's possible decertification from SEIU and certification of NUHW and recent member concerns with Edgemoor Long Term Care Facility operated by the County of San Diego and represented by Local 221.

CDPH (California Dept. of Public Health) survey will be emailed to union representatives at each local, who will then distribute it to their appropriate members.

We reviewed our mission statement and developed a list of goals for 2010 which will be finalized at the March meeting at Local 721 in Los Angeles. One important goal is for each local to bring new members to the March meeting.

Various ideas for a Nurse Alliance of California slogan and mission statement were brainstormed and will be reviewed at the February 2, video conference meeting.

Preliminary plans for the May 3-5 Legislative Conference in Sacramento were discussed.
