What’s at stake?
Statewide, California stands to lose $20 billion in federal funding and five million California residents could lose their health coverage. Even employer-sponsored health plans would be affected. The loss of federal money also means the loss of local jobs in areas that connect our communities with the care they need.
Nearly half of the population in Kern and Tulare Counties relies on some form of subsidized insurance. We participated in many actions in Bakersfield and Visalia. Since Congressman McCarthy is the House Majority Leader and is responsible for moving the agenda forward in the House of Representatives, we are putting pressure on him.
We must let our Congressional Representatives know that stripping health care from 30 million Americans is unjust.
We should be clear with our Congressional Representatives about the human cost of this repeal, from the loss of coverage for millions to huge premium spikes for everybody else, and cuts to hospitals and providers. It’s vital that our representatives know just how many of their own constituents’ lives they are putting on the line.

Many more benefit from ACA because of provisions like extending dependent coverage to age 26 and removing “pre-existing condition” clauses from insurance. Covered California and tax subsidies to small businesses have given people more freedom to change jobs and small businesses can better compete for the best talent.
