Back to Victories

We did it! As part of the budget deal just reached between Governor Brown and the Legislature, the 7% cut in IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) hours has been reversed effective July 1, 2015. That means the people we care for will soon be receiving a letter from their county agency informing them of this great news and additional instructions.
Our victory is the result of all the hard work of thousands of home care providers, consumers, and activists who rallied in Sacramento all year. United, we delivered tens of thousands of sign-ons, testified in hearings, and talked with nearly every member of the Legislature.
At the same time, our fight isn’t over until every hour restored is restored for good. Our fight might be done for now, but a full, permanent restoration of hours isn’t complete yet. This budget designated the restoration of hours for one year – with future funding dependent on the passage of a new managed care tax.
Together, we can continue the pathway to dignity for all caregivers and our consumers by continuing to advocate for IHSS.
