The Kern County budget hearing on August 17 drew more than 100 SEIU 521 members to the board chamber, sending a strong message to the county that prolonged negotiations are only building up our energy to win a fair contract.
Our worksite actions and unified stance have already produced results: The latest contract proposal from Kern County has NO TAKEAWAYS on vacation time or sick leave – two items that the employer had threatened when talks first started.
