Employees Rally at Gardner Family Care

Employees of Gardner Family Care in San Jose rallied Tuesday, Dec. 4 to show solidarity in their goal for a fair contract. About 150 employees, mostly mental health workers, are bargaining for livable step increases and hard-earned bilingual pay, among other issues.

Workers on Tuesday waved picket signs, marched and chanted to show they stand behind their negotiation team.

Chief Steward Ivan Alan addressed the crowd after the rally with a bargaining update. Management has only offered staff pennies and nickels, Alan said.

By us continuing to show them that we care about what we want, we're going to ask for dollars and we’re going to get dollars, Alan said amid cheers of support.

Alan also encouraged employees to spread the word and to continue showing support by wearing SEIU T-shirts and pins on Fridays.
